Disposing of Your Old PC - Safely!
Simply deleting the files or even re-formatting the hard drive doesn't erase all of the information that's been stored there. These processes only remove the information that is used by the hard drive to find data!
There are many recovery programs available that can even retrieve data from a hard drive that is no longer usable! And, many free programs that can un-delete files, even if they've been emptied from the recycle bin!
While these programs can be life savers if your hard drive has crashed or you've mistakenly deleted the wrong file, they can also reveal pin numbers, account numbers and passwords.
Even if you don't complete banking or business transactions on your computer, there's still more than likely lots of personal information that you wouldn't want to fall into the wrong hands!
The safest way to remove data is by using a wiping or erasing utility on your hard drive. There are many free programs available online that you can download and use to completely erase any personal data from your hard drive. These programs will allow you to choose which files to erase so that you can leave the actual operating system intact.
If you use Outlook Express you should also remember to delete any emails or email addresses that you may have. Emails are often personal and they may contain information that you'd like to keep personal.
While online email services don't store anything on your hard drive, everything you do in Outlook is stored in your system! Those emails that you've received from your online banking service or credit cards could be used against you!
Something that people often forget to remove are photographs. Even if they're pictures of a birthday party or Christmas, they're still personal pictures that you may not want to share with a total stranger!
If you make your living writing or designing or inventing new products, then you've probably got a lot of files that pertains to your work. You will definitely want to make sure these are completely wiped away! All of your hard work would go down the drain if your great idea ended up patented under someone else's name!
It may sound like a lot of extra work to prepare your computer for sale or to donation, but it can be well worth it in the end. You will be protecting the security of both you and your family.

Cheaper Ways of Printing
Digital cameras have fallen in price over the last five years. We constantly see new developments in the digital camera industry, such as higher megapixels, better quality zoom and of course smaller / compact cameras. This is all great news to you the consumers. Once we have our photos on camera the next step in many cases is to print them out onto good quality photo paper. The problem with this is that ink can be quite expensive for the consumers. However knowing the right product to buy can save you some serious money.
The advantages of printing the images that we capture from digital cameras play a great role in the reduced rate of commercial photo printing. Firstly, you can forget about the idea of printing out an entire negative roll. Capturing a great photo isn't an easy task and as a result, there are always those shots which are unwanted. With digital photos you can choose which photo's to keep, and most importantly which photos to print. On top of this, you can manipulate you photos with image manipulating software such as Photoshop to create fancy effects or adjust the image setting for an optimal result.
As more of us print more and more of our Digital Photos we find that it can become costly. Photo paper in itself is quite affordable. Pre cut paper (4 x 6") is easily attainable from high quality companies such as HP at very reasonable prices. The issues are based on the price of ink cartridges. A single cartridge of ink can set you back anywhere between $35 - $50. The truth is that a cartridge will need to be replaced many times, in some cases more than ten times a year. Printer machines are surprisingly quite cheap these days. In fact this is a tactic of printer manufacturers to lure consumers in to purchase their printers. Consumers only realize the true expense of owning a printer after purchasing numerous cartridges.
Nevertheless, there are cost effective solutions which can really lower the overall cost of ink cartridges. Many companies such as inksmile.com and 4injkets are now offering re-manufactured ink supply solutions. Re-manufactured ink cartridges are essentially cartridges that have been re-filled with quality ink. Its is commonly known that original ink cartridges are not all that superior to re-manufactured ones. The only difference is that they are much cheaper and there affordable to you - the consumer. Re-manufactured ink cartridges are produced by third party suppliers such as inksmile.com. Due to this they don't hold any of the larger brand names such as HP or Epson. In fact many of these larger companies will criticize re-manufactured ink cartridges, for their quality. The reality of this fact is that large corporations are interested in increasing their profits and will therefore charge the consumer high costs for original cartridges.

Beware of this Domain Appraisal Scam
by: Brian Holland
I recently received several e mails from domain sellers who had fallen victim to a domain appraisal scam. The scam starts with a mail the seller receives concerning a domain they own and the scammer showing interest in buying it.
The scammers find information about their targets on Ebay and on Whois.
In the first mail they tell you that they are a new player wanting to invest money in the domain market as a side business and inquire how much you want for the domain.
Next step is the mail in which they accept your asking price for the domain. The scammers tell you that they want you to get the domain appraised as they don’t want to make a bad investment. The scammers want the appraisal from a certain manual appraisal website which they believe to be a good one, ofcourse this appraisal website is part of the scam. This appraisal website gives a highly inflated appraisal value and asks a high fee for it ( up to over a hundred dollars) as they know you need the appraisal to sell the domain.
The end of this story is that once you have mailed your appraisal you never hear from your buyers again. leaving you one hundred dollars poorer and an absolutely useless appraisal richer. This is a very cunningly operated scam and to show you how such a scam mail looks i give you a real example of such an email below.
Email 1:
Hello,
We ‘ve found your domain name listed for sale..
If you are still interested in selling please send your quote and I will
consider it with my partners.
Main direction of our business is software development and technical
support.
Domain names is not our business but a new way to earn on reselling. We are
going to buy domains to resell them at higher prices since we have a large
database of clients interested in good domains.
Looking forward to do business with you.
Regards,
Email 2:
You want 13,500 USD. Ok.
Do you sell domain with a web site or just the name?
If it’s just the name it’s ok. A web site is not necessary.
Have you had your domains appraised already? Can you show me your valuation certificates? As far as I know it’s a common practice to show appraisal of domain name (even without traffic and web site) before doing business.
Without an appraisal I risk to overpay. In other words I won’t be able to make a profit on reselling this name. It’s very important for you and me to know the current market value of your domains.
Of course, we must be sure that you are engaging an appraisal company with REAL manual service. I heard many appraisal companies often made inaccurate auto-generated appraisals. I will only accept appraisals from independent sources I trust. To avoid mistakes I asked domain experts about reputable appraisal companies in a forum. (they now give you a link of a forum you have to check out)
Just check this posting.
If the appraisal comes higher you can adjust your asking price accordingly. I also hope you can give me 10 discount of the appraised value.
After I get an appraisal from you we’ll continue our negotiations.
Hope we can come to an agreement fast.
Looking forward to your reply.
So if you ever get an email like this, you know what to do. Scrap it. Just remember this wise saying that if something sounds too good to be true it probably is.

The Internet, These Days
For help with common problems, more Americans now use the internet than consult experts or family members, according to the latest Pew Internet & American Life Project survey (www.pewinternet.org/ppf/r/231/report_display.asp). Of those surveyed, 58% use the internet compared with 53% who turn to professionals such as doctors, lawyers, or financial experts and 45% who seek out friends and family members.
The Pew survey indicated that 77% of Americans now have internet access, with 64% having broadband access and 13% having slower dial-up access. Those with dial-up access in general are “poorer, older, and less well-educated” than those with broadband access. They are also more likely to rely on television and radio for information than broadband users.
More Americans than ever are using the internet to help them choose the next president, according to Pew. About 24% of Americans say they regularly learn something about the presidential campaign from the internet, which is up from 13% compared to the same time in the 2004 campaign.
The internet may have been invented by Americans, but other countries are currently taking to it with more enthusiasm, according to a new Harris Interactive survey done for Symantec. The U.S., though, remains near the top. (For a brief overview of the survey, visit www.symantec.com/norton/theme2.jsp?themeid=nolr.)
The Chinese by far are the most active bloggers among the eight countries surveyed. In China, 86% of adults with online access spend time on their personal blogs, compared with 44% in Brazil, 39% in Japan, 20% in the U.S., 19% in the U.K., 18% in France, 17% in Australia, and 13% in Germany.
Along with putting information out there, other countries are also more active in retrieving news and opinion. In Brazil, 93% of adults online spend time following news sites and blogs, compared with 92% in China, 83% in Japan, 77% in the U.S., 76% in France, 75% in Australia, 71% in Germany, and 66% in the U.K.
The U.K. leads the way with online shopping, with 96% of online users there buying merchandise online. This compares with 93% in Germany, 90% in the U.S. and Japan, 89% in France, 86% in China, 84% in Australia, and 81% in Brazil.
Personal finance isn’t quite as popular as shopping as an internet activity, but the majority of online users in the countries surveyed have handled some financial transactions online. China leads the way here, with 87% of adults online doing online banking or paying bills online at least sometimes. This is followed by 85% in the U.K., 84% in France, 81% in Australia, 79% in the U.S., 78% in Germany, 74% in Japan, and 68% in Brazil.
When it comes to making friends online, the Chinese are also out front, with 84% having online access doing so. This compares with 77% for Brazil, 54% for Australia, 45% for the U.S. and Germany, 42% for the U.K., 38% for Japan, and 31% for France.
Among the newly emerging internet activities is watching or downloading movies. In the U.S. 41% of adults and 46% of children online do this at least sometimes. In China the figures are 97% of adults and 96% of children. China also leads the world in downloading music, with 97% of adults and 98% of kids online doing so. In the U.S. the figures are 56% for adults as well as children.
As you might expect, the most popular internet activity among kids is playing games. In the U.S. 96% of kids and 74% of adults online play games. In China, the figures are 99% for kids and 95% for adults.
Despite problems with spam, viruses, and phishing, email remains the most popular internet activity among adults, with 97% to 99% of adults online in all the countries surveyed exchanging email. According to the most recent Nelson survey on the subject, the 10 most popular websites in the U.S. in order are Google, Yahoo!, Microsoft, MSN/Windows Live, AOL Media Network, YouTube, Fox Interactive Media, Amazon, eBay, and Apple. Google leads the way with searching, being used for 56.3% of all web searches compared with 17.7% for Yahoo! and 13.8% for MSN/Windows Live Search.

Connecting Blogging And Marketing
The best thing to generalize all of these is “How can you expect people to rely on your work if they do not understand what they are reading?” Such is a practice that is still being done at present. People think that the more times a keyword is used in an entry, the better it is for them. For programs and scripts, it may be possible. But the human factor will always be the varying aspect that will make the difference. Reader count and site visits are important as well. Putting value in your blog or content is still important and this can never be taken for granted. So the next time you make a blog or article, be wiser. Quality is still the unforeseen factor in most of your work. Do not degrade yourself for the sake of ongoing SEO trends. Just understand the whole methodology and you can find yourself on course towards efficient blogging and content management with SEO as your reward. The gift of blogging to the masses of people who patronize the Internet is the ability of being to voice out accomplishments, frustrations and unique ideas coming from experience and personal beliefs. All people in the world will always have something to share that will be of interest. It all depends on how they put it into writing and good composition for others to read. Blogging is not really too technical to learn and do. All it needs is the gathering of ideas and compose it in a way to which people can understand the obvious gist that people are trying to bring across. It all boils down to the quality content contained in blogs. This is something that can either be informative or used as daily thought to which is important for people to rely on. Blogging should not be limited to what people want to read today. Many have used blogging as a form of marketing tool to help spread the word on particular words and topics. While this practice is a breakthrough for business minded individuals, they should also take into account that the entry should make sense. This is the best way to create blog entries considering that content is still the main point for their compositions. Depending on the purpose, blogging should be left with a free-hand when composing them. The essence and the meaningful substance of such blogs can only be brought out if a person or a blogger would have no restrictions present in being able to put into writing the wandering ideas on his mind. A lot of people would be surprised at such entries, unique and providing deeper meaning if they are allowed to blog as they wish.

Three Great Tips For Handling PDF Conversions
1. Zamzar launches a pretty nifty file conversion service I wanted to scrape a graphic from a PDF file and I was searching online for my options. Normally one looks for a packaged option, downloadable, and I was sorting through the free and not so free, the working and not so working and I came across this little gem called Zamzar. It’s a service, rather than software, and they do one or two of the niftiest things going. First, they translate my PDF files into just about any file format I could wish for. This was what I wanted in the first place, but they also offered to do little other things that were neat, like send me a file that they can scrape off Youtube! I like that. Let me go aside for a paragraph and then back to Zamzar. I pulled Paul Tobey’s Music Box Dancer, which is a jazzed up version of the classic off and now I can listen to it on my PDA when I don’t have internet access. One of the comments said it best for me: “I like both versions. These guys are just having a great jam session having fun with a tune that lends itself to such things.” Over 22,000 views can’t be wrong! Paul is an interesting guy. I met him at one of his Internet Marketing Courses, and after about three hours, realized that he wasn’t just teaching me how to do Search Engine Optimization, but he was also teaching me about copy writing, etiquette, strategy, how to close sales, and just plain Internet business sense. His Music Box dancer is at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmqgNKB1uog and you can look over his internet marketing course at http://www.trainingbusinesspros.com/. But that’s not why I’m writing this. Through Paul, I found a great practical use for Zamzar and this is how it fits usefully into my life. Zamzar is a pretty neat converter. It's free. You go to www.zamzar.com and simply upload your file. Shortly afterwards, Zamzar emails you a link back. You follow that link and download the converted file. It's free, and pretty easy! Zamzar does the following conversions to PFD and back. The entire list, which includes images, audio and video! • convert PDF to doc - Microsoft Word Document • convert PDF to html - Hypertext Markup Language • convert PDF to odt - OpenDocument Text Document • convert PDF to pcx - Paintbrush Bitmap Image • convert PDF to png - Portable Network Graphic • convert PDF to ps - Postscript document • convert PDF to rtf - Rich Text Format • convert PDF to txt - Text document and • convert csv to PDF Comma Separated Values • convert doc to PDF Microsoft Word Document • convert docx to PDF Microsoft Word 2007 Document • convert odp to PDF OpenDocument presentation • convert ods to PDF OpenDocument spreadsheet • convert odt to PDF OpenDocument Text Document • convert ppt to PDF Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation • convert pptx to PDF Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 Presentation • convert ps to PDF Postscript document • convert rtf to PDF Rich Text Format • convert wpd to PDF WordPerfect Document • convert wps to PDF Microsoft Works Document • convert xls to PDF Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet • convert xlsx to PDF Microsoft Excel 2007 Spreadsheet The thing that I really like about Zamzar is that they are new and coming up with new stuff all the time. It also seems to convert WordPerfect documents into Word documents and Word documents into WordPerfect Documents which can be very handy if you are in a WordPerfect shop. I'll use Zamzar occasionally. However, I'm not sure I want to ship my corporate or personal information to Zamzar or off into some unknown place in the Interweb, but I sure like it for what it does. I'll stick to MyPDFCreator for the business critical and personal stuff, but Zamzar is a great tool in the toolbox! 2. PDF Etiquette: It's the right thing! Just because you have PDF doesn't mean you have to use it! When should one use PDF and when should one stick to POT (Plain old Text) PDF is great when you want to send an uneditable document. Examples include quotations, invoices, legal documents, and ebooks PDF is also outstanding for sending documents for which the presentation layout is crucial, like annual reports. However, anytime that you email an attachment, it requires extra clicks to open it, and people tend not to do extra clicks. They miss the attachment, or they don't want to open attachments for fear of viruses, or, if they are on an old computer, opening up large PDF or other files can slow down and stop a computer. If you are sending a birthday party initiation or something casual, put it in the email. Don't use any attachment at all. 3. In Software, "Feature Rich" can be a "Bloated Pig"! Make sure that the software you are using isn't loaded down with options you'll never use. If you buy, for example, Adobe Professional for $449.00 you are getting the most complete feature rich, product available. This is great when you want to "Design forms to collect and aggregate data through e-mail or on the web" for example. But if 100% you are going to do falls in the realm of "create a Word Document or a PowerPoint show and convert it to PDF and back" then you don't need to spend most of the $449.00 and you don't need to have to struggle through the myriad of options that the "Feature Rich" software offers you, and you don't need to go on a three day training course. Buy the bacon, not the whole hog!
